29 October 2021, Lagos: In the build up to his debut EP “Rare Gem,” rising Port-Harcourt bred Afro-Fusion star Ninety, releases new single ‘Piano’, following the release of debut and sophomore singles “Touch & Follow” and “Somebody.” earlier this year. Piano is a melodious mid-tempo Afrobeats record that expresses the extent to which Ninety’s love interest’s aura controls him, with him also asking that she not “play” him like a “Piano”.
It was produced by Type A, who also produced Blaqbonez’s “Bling” ft. Amaarae & Buju, which peaked at number 1 on the Apple Music Top 100: Nigeria chart. Ninety, basking in the success of his debut single ‘Touch and Follow”, which has surpassed the 1 Million streams milestone across all platforms, he is poised to join Omah Lay and Ajebo Hustlers, as the new wave of music talents from Port-Harcourt, a city that has produced some of the industry’s biggest hitmakers like Burna Boy, Timaya and Duncan Mighty.
Building anticipation for Ninety’s debut project, “Rare Gem”, Piano bolsters him as an artist who wants to create value for his fans as the release is set to launch a free NFT drop to some of his fans. This drop will feature the original cover art of the single, shot by the famed Kelechi Amadi Obi, and will act as a genesis token to Ninety’s steady growing community. Ninety understands the power of community in an evolving digital world and plans to utilise innovative web3 tools to reward his community over the long term. Ninety, born Alabo Tuonims, emerges at a time when the Afrobeats genre is evolving with late Millennials and Gen Z shifting specific themes and styles of traditional genres in music. As Afrobeats becomes a much fuller and richer type of sound with better lyrics, better production, international features, varying delivery styles and the like, Ninety is gradually establishing himself as a musical mainstay from Port Harcourt to the world. Ninety brings a fresh fluidity to the wave of sounds being newly generated in this multi-genre.
